Abstract
Emojis are a powerful cue to convey affective meaning during computer-mediated communication. In this article we provide an overview of the methodological resources which are currently available to those interested in conducting research or developing potential applications with emojis. Online statistical resources, encyclopedias, and sentiment lexicons are useful to track the use and understanding of emojis. Also, data from normative studies provide subjective evaluations in a number of perceptual, affective and psycholinguistic factors for a large set of emojis. This allows to select stimuli when designing studies in both experimental and ecologically-valid contexts.
